What we design around

ESP32 boards have their own problems.

  • 2.4 GHz antenna keep-out

    This is the one that bites people. The PCB trace antenna on a WROOM module radiates through whatever you put around it — plastic thickness, infill density, and any metal insert near the antenna end all detune it. We keep the enclosure wall thin and clear behind the antenna, keep threaded inserts and screw bosses out of the keep-out zone, and orient the board so the antenna end isn't buried in a corner. An enclosure that halves your range is a design defect, not a printing problem.

  • Module height, not board height

    The WROOM/WROVER can is the tallest thing on most ESP32 boards, and it sits proud of everything else. Interior clearance gets driven by that can plus whatever headers you've populated — which is why we ask for max component heights in the brief rather than inferring them from the board outline.

  • USB and the boot buttons

    Devkits vary: micro-USB on older boards, USB-C on newer ones, and the connector is rarely centered on the edge. EN and BOOT need to stay reachable if you're still flashing over serial — we'll either put access holes over them or leave the seam where you can pop the lid, depending on whether this is a bench prototype or something you're handing to a customer.

  • Heat under sustained Wi-Fi

    A WROOM under continuous transmit runs warm, and a sealed print holds that heat in. If your duty cycle is high we'll put vents in — placed so they don't turn into a debris path or wreck the look of the part.

ESP32-S3 and C6 boards with an external antenna connector, castellated modules soldered onto a carrier, and fully custom ESP32 designs are all in scope. If you've got something unusual, send the brief — we'll tell you within a few hours whether it's a fit.
